New product launches featuring Plantics at Orgatec

Orgatec

At Orgatec, the premier trade fair for workplace and office furnishings held in Cologne last October, Plantics showcased how natural materials combined with their bio-resin create the perfect foundation for sustainable furniture. Their partner, Vepa, unveiled two exciting product lines that highlight the potential for eco-friendly and circular furniture.

One of Vepa’s innovations is an expansion of their existing ‘Hemp Collection,’ developed in partnership with Plantics and available for several years. The new chair collection features hemp fibers and bio-resin, but now incorporates used jute coffee bags as the outer layer. Sourced from the coffee roaster Peeze in Arnhem, these bags are repurposed into the chair design, giving each piece a unique, individual character due to the variability of the coffee bags.

Filament winding technology

The second new offering is the ‘Flax Collection,’ a series of sitting and standing tables. The name reflects the fact that the table legs are crafted using filament winding techniques with flax fibers combined with Plantics resin. Additionally, Vepa has introduced a range of lampshades made using the same innovative method. Their acoustic panels also utilize Plantics resin as a key material.

Emphasizing circularity and sustainability

Leo Kruit, Director of Business Development at Plantics, and his team attended this significant trade fair, which focused heavily on sustainability and circular practices. Leo commented, “It was fantastic to see Vepa’s stylish new products showcased at their impressive stand. We also used the four-day event to network and connect with various furniture manufacturers and designers. The combination of fully plant-based and circular solutions clearly resonated with them, inspiring us to develop new prototypes with both existing and new partners.”
