About the role

As R&D Engineer at Plantics, you will work within one of the research and/or business development projects in the R&D department (ca. 20 researchers), in both explorative as well as commercial stages. In a typical project you directly work together with 3-5 colleagues, including an experienced project leader, with various technical backgrounds such as chemistry, engineering (materials, chemical, mechanical), and product design. Your core activities as R&D Engineer are:

  • Executing practical labwork
  • Analyzing the obtained results & processing of data
  • Reporting and presenting within the project team(s)
  • Collaborate with colleagues to propel product development

The projects are always centered around achieving creative market propositions in combination with our Plantics Bioresin and our bio-composites. We are looking to strengthen our team with 2-3 new colleagues with various technical backgrounds. The exact project you will work on will be partially based on your expertise and experience.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an R&D Engineer who contributes with a hands-on approach to the practical laboratory work for the development work. After a familiarization period, the successful candidate should able to perform his/her work independently, in which clear communication and teamwork is pivotal.

  • Education: Educational background in a relevant technical field g. materials science, (polymer) chemistry, polymer/chemical engineering.
  • Experience: Both starters as experienced researchers are welcome to apply, affinity and experience with polymers/polyesters and fiber-composites is a huge pre.
  • Technical skills: Hands-on experience in practical lab work, for example in the domain of chemistry: g. monomer and polymer synthesis, use of additives. Or in the domain of materials science e.g. producing composites. Or in the domain of (chemical) engineering: e.g. process design, reactor design. Analytical know-how in the domains is highly appreciated.
  • Passion for sustainability: A strong commitment to working on renewable materials and sustainable solutions.

When will your role be a success?

The successful candidate feels at home in a laboratory environment, has a pro-active and hands-on mentality and is eager to work on projects which contributes to the development of sustainable composites! Your contributions will be found back in timely progress of the development projects,  successful product/process development, and effective teamwork within the projects.

About Plantics

We are a scale-up company located in Arnhem, the Netherlands, dedicated to developing 100%  biobased, circular, CO2-negative, and safe thermoset resins and composites. Together with our partners we strife to bring new sustainable products to the market. For example, together with VEPA we developed a beautiful new chair (called Hemp Fine), produced from hemp-fibers and our plant-based resin. This new product was awarded the “Renewable Material of the Year 2021” by the NOVA institute!
